I've now realized that I have the problem only when I use the HTML5 version of the player. The Flash version works flawlessly! Thanks for the hard work!

hmm... well that's kind of nonideal but at least there is some kind of workaround...

by the way, over the weekend we changed the default player to be what was previously the "opt-in to try our new player".

so feel free to re-check how things are for you and report back if anything's changed from your perspective.
